Raheem Sterling 20 is set to become both the most expensive Englishman and City's record signing, beating Carlos Tevez's £47m fee in 2009.
The England winger has been desperate to leave Anfield for months after making it clear he would not sign a new contract.
Liverpool had put a £50m valuation on his head and Brendan Rodgers will be delighted to have got extremely close to that mark. 
City had two previous bids worth £30m and £40m rejected but the third one has got the job done.
Manuel Pellegrini will pay £44m up front with another £5m in add ons.

                    Ramirez and Mikel Must Stay To Compete With Fabrigas/Matic In The Midfield The Brazilian midfielder had been linked, alongside John Obi Mikel, with a move from Stamford Bridge to Istanbul. But Yildirim has poured cold water on the story, telling  Turkish-football.com : "We have not made an offer or even an enquiry for Ramires." The 28-year-old is now expected to sign a contract extension which will keep him with the Blues beyond 2017, when his current deal expires. Yildirim also ruled out a move for either Mikel or Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina, another reported target.
