The amount spent by Barclays Premier League clubs during the summer window passed £800million on the final day of trading, but most of the talk centred around two deals that did not happen. De Gea's long-anticipated £29million move from Manchester United to Real Madrid collapsed on Monday night and both clubs appeared at odds over who was to blame.                                                                            Mauricio Pochettino was left without the recognised striker he craved when Tottenham Hotspur’s efforts to prise Saido Berahino from West Bromwich Albion on transfer deadline day failed amid drama and anger. Spurs had already had offers worth £18m and £22m for Berahino turned down, and it emerged that one of the packages had been structured around payments of £3.5m each year for five years, which had served to infuriate West Brom and their chairman, Jeremy Peace.                                                                        At 5pm, with the positions entrenched and emotions swirling, Berahino had taken to Twitter to suggest he did not intend to play again for Peace’s club. “Sad how i cant say exactly how the club has treated me but i can officially say i will never play Jeremy Peace,” Berahino wrote.              

D'Tiger Wins First Ever African Basketball Title, Qualifies For Rio Olympics

                                  Finally, Nigeria’s national male basketball team, D’Tigers showed their talents by winning a first ever FIBA Afrobasket Championship on Sunday night in Tunisia when they beat 10-time champions, Angola 74-65. Chamberlain Oguchi scored 19 points and was voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament and was also named in the team of the tournament alongside teammate, Al-Farouq Aminu. Captain of the team, Olumide Oyedeji, had said the team was the most talented of the teams that came to Tunisia and that claim was justified even though one of their best players, Ike Diogu, did not play a single minute of the competition because of a twisted ankle. Taiwo Awoniyi Nigerian Striker Joins Liverpool FC

            Liverpool have announced the signing of the Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi, who will immediately head out on loan with FSV Frankfurt.  The 18 year-old, who joins the club having previously represented Imperial Academy in Nigeria. He does not qualify for a work permit yet hence his loan move to Germany. Liverpool are understood to have paid around £400,000 for Awoniyi’s services. He told his new club’s website: “This is the biggest club in the world and I’m privileged to be here. I’ll try to develop myself very well so that when I come back to Liverpool I’ll be able to add value to the team. When I’m in the red shirt, I will always give my very best to make the fans happy.” Awoniyi is a Nigeria Under-23 international. He has also played for the Super Eagles at the Under-17 and Under‑20 World Cups and earned a call-up for the senior Nigeria squad in 2013.
