Barcelona sign Aleix Vidal from Sevilla for £7.5million
Vidal celebrates the Europa Cup with Sevilla
- Barcelona set to tie up the signing of versatile wide-man Aleix Vidal
- Vidal is on the brink of securing a five-year contract at the Nou Camp
- Sevilla deployed Vidal as a full-back this term in their Europa League run
- The 25-year-old is seen as a replacement for the departing Dani Alves
Having won the Champions League on Saturday night to complete a historic treble, Barcelona have sealed Vidal's signing quickly. He will take his medical on Monday morning and the club will officially present the player at 1.15pm.
President Josep Maria Bartomeu must leave office this week ahead of the upcoming club presidential election and he wanted to get the deal done before then.
Because of the club's transfer ban, they can sign Vidal but not register him until January 2016, so he will likely have to sit out the first few months of next season. However, given the opportunity playing for a club like Barcelona offers, it is a sacrifice he is willing to make.
Vidal, who turns 26 in August, was born in Catalonia, and after impressing for Almeria was signed by Sevilla in the summer of 2014.
Barcelona have a good relationship with Sevilla and may also loan them a player next season, though that is not officially part of the deal. Gerard Deulofeu and Denis Suarez went to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan this year, with the latter on a two-year loan deal.
Meanwhile, Barcelona celebrated their Champions League triumph over Juventus with an open-top bus parade through the city.
Neymar and Messi nibbled on a burger thrown to them by a fan as their celebrations reached fever pitch. The parade ended at the Nou Camp with the squad presenting the European Cup to their supporters.
